Today has been a mammoth day for music singles, with boyband legends One Direction and Take That unleashing their new songs Perfect and Hey Boy onto the world. Ben Haenow has released his long awaited single, Second Hand Heart featuring Kelly Clarkson whilst Little Mix also dropped two new singles, Lightning and Weird People.
With all of this excitement, we must not overlook three massive album releases from today!
Confident by Demi Lovato
The hotly anticipated Confident by Demi Lovato includes her smash single Cool For The Summer, latest track Confident as well as her Iggy Azalea collaboration, Kingdom.
With lyrics such as “I used to hold my freak back/Now I’m letting go/I make my own choice/Yeah I run this show…”, it’s clear to see that Demi has grown up a lot since her Disney Channel days and is finally feeling as if she can be herself. Demi told Billboard “I have never been confident enough in my own skin to feel sexy, now that I’m feeling great and I feel confident, I’m proud of the skin that I’m in.”
“I’m wanting to share that with the world and showing everyone how you can go from being very insecure with body image issues to feeling so proud of your body that you want to show it to the world,” she continues.
Her sultry sound is powerful and Demi chose to have female rappers on two of her songs to further emphasise that girl power message throughout the album. Confident marks Demi’s fifth studio album which is sure to be a huge success.
Revolve by John Newman
Revolve is the second album by the Yorkshire soul singer-songwriter. The album includes the incredible Come and Get It, Blame (his chart topping collab with Calvin Harris) and Tiring Game featuring Charlie Wilson. Revolve even includes a collab with Luther star Idris Elba!
To coincide with the album, John has also released a Revolve book. John said of his book, “The main reason I have written this book is because I want people to know the process behind making my second album. I fight everyday to show people what I see inside my head, my vision and what I want to create.”
His voice is so unique that you can recognise it a mile off – team that with infectious dance hooks and oodles of gospel and soul and you’re left with a really great album. John’s debut album Tribute was a roaring success and no doubt Revolve will follow in its footsteps.
Jamie Lawson by Jamie Lawson
Gingerbread Man Records’ first signing, Jamie Lawson, debuts his album today. With support from Ed Sheeran and opening for One Direction on their UK tour, Jamie has been propelled into stardom with his single Wasn’t Expecting That topping the iTunes chart. Jamie said “When you’re put in front of the world by one of the biggest stars in the world at the moment, then you’re going to get some attention. It’s definitely a life changer.”
Speaking of his album, Jamie said “It’s pretty simple acoustic-based music. Folk music but not in the traditional sense. Hopefully it’s just a very warm and inviting record that you can step into and not feel too stressed about.”
“I wanted to create an open, spacious album because I find a lot of music quite claustrophobic at the moment. The songs that play on the radio – everything is massively compressed – and the beat of it all is quite insistent and incessant. I wanted to step back from that.” he continued.
His talent speaks for itself – his music is very reminiscent of Ed Sheeran in his early days. Jamie has worked hard for years to get a break and at the age of 39 he has finally started to gain the recognition he deserves!
