Pop icon Niall Horan is stepping into country music for the first time with a new collaboration alongside Thomas Rhett. The two artists are set to release a fresh version of Rhett’s 2024 track, “Old Tricks,” on Friday, October 17, 2025. Horan’s addition marks his first full foray into the country genre and has already stirred great excitement among fans on social media.
The original “Old Tricks,” which appeared on the deluxe edition of Rhett’s About a Woman album and featured Blake Shelton, channels a 90s honky-tonk vibe, mixing humor with reflections on aging and maturity. Rhett’s new take with Horan promises to retain that playful nostalgia while introducing Horan’s distinct vocal style to the mix.
Both artists teased the collaboration on social media, with Horan hinting at the release with a simple cowboy emoji, signaling his dive into country music—a genre he has long admired and frequently referenced during his tenure as a coach on NBC’s The Voice. Rhett also shared the news enthusiastically, generating buzz as fans rushed to pre-save the track ahead of its official release.
The remix arrives at a busy moment for both musicians. Niall Horan continues his work mentoring new talent on The Voice, while Rhett balances his touring schedule with promoting his ongoing projects. The collaboration raises questions among fans about whether Horan may explore more country-infused material in the future.
With “Old Tricks” already celebrated for its catchy, reflective tone, the addition of Horan’s voice is poised to give the track a fresh edge, blending pop sensibilities with traditional country storytelling. Fans can expect a cross-genre experiment that honors the song’s honky-tonk roots while introducing a contemporary twist.
