While the two-hour People’s Choice Award Ceremony was full of incredible moments, speeches, and awards being given; not all of the winners were announced during the televised portion. Soon after the award show aired, a full list of winners went up online and one category that fans were especially excited to discover the winner of was ‘Breakout Artist’. The competition this year was incredible, but only one person takes the award home at the end of the night. We have to admit we were incredibly proud when we found out that this year, it was Niall Horan.
Niall spent the beginning of 2016 traveling, experiencing new things, and taking some time to disconnect after living in a very public eye for the almost six years before One Direction took their hiatus. Each of the boys talked about exploring solo interests during the break and Niall surprised us all when he released ‘This Town’ with no promo at all! The song, obviously, climbed the charts quickly and Niall was absolutely blown away by the support of his fans. He was a bit nervous to share the song with the public as he discussed writing an album without really knowing he was writing an album in the months prior to the song’s release.
‘This Town’ was the perfect solo single for Niall, the song fits his voice perfectly and he grew in confidence each time it was performed. Not to mention, the lyric video that accompanies the song – as well as his 1 mic 1 take video – was incredible. You could tell that he put a lot of time, effort, and passion into the single which comes as no surprise at all.
So when it was announced that Niall was in the running for the Breakout Artist in 2017 at the People’s Choice Awards, fans were incredibly excited to begin voting for him. In true One Direction fan fashion, there were trends about his nomination and a number accounts voting tirelessly to support Niall. All of that support definitely paid off.
We’re incredibly proud of Niall for his Breakout Artist win and can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for all of us next. Right now he’s taking some time off before getting back in the studio to finish recording his album this spring! We can’t wait to hear it.
