The pair worked together in a modest East London studio—ironically located near the clubs that shaped Olly’s early years.
Speaking about the album, Olly said: “I’m putting out music I love, on my terms, that means something to me.”

Polari is steeped in nostalgia but feels distinctly modern. Its influences range from the euphoric 80s synth-pop of Depeche Mode, Erasure, and Yazoo, to the club-ready beats of today. The album features ‘Cupid’s Bow’, a disco-tinged tribute to queer nightlife, and ‘When We Kiss’, an electrifying anthem that feels like a lost hit from another time.
A standout moment comes with Olly’s Eurovision entry ‘Dizzy’, which boasts full Pet Shop Boys-style pomp, fitting seamlessly into the album’s sonic universe. Meanwhile, ‘Make Me a Man’ was even produced by legendary Vince Clarke, cementing the album’s deep connection to queer musical history.
The title Polari pays homage to the once-secret language used by gay men in Britain before homosexuality was legalised. Many words from Polari—such as camp, shady, trade, and slap—have since become mainstream, much like the themes Olly explores in his music.

Alongside the album release, Olly has dropped a stunning new music video for ‘Whisper in the Waves’, directed by Colin Solal Cardo. Known for his visually striking work, the video continues the dreamlike, artistic vision Olly has crafted for this era.
