It appears not everyone believes in second chances.
Season 20 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars premiered tonight and well, things escalated rather quickly. During judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s critique of swimmer, Ryan Lochte and pro partner Cheryl Burke’s foxtrot, a couple of audience members rushed to the stage and attempted to attack the 12-time Olympic medalist.
While this occurred, the camera remained on Carrie Ann. Viewers at home could hear scuffling going on behind the scenes as the audience members were tackled by security. Carrie Ann, shaken up by what was happening in front of her very own eyes, continuously told the attackers to “back off.” The show immediately went to a commercial break, but when they returned, host Tom Bergeron asked Lochte about the frightening experience.
“So many feelings gong through my head right now. A little hurt,” he explained.
Lochte has frequently made headlines within the past month; however, not because of his Olympic winnings. The 32-year-old fabricated a robbery that he claimed happened during his stay in Rio. When footage was released catching Lochte in his lie, he eventually came clean and told the public that he was not robbed at gun point. The International Olympic Committee, United States Olympic Committee and USA Swimming suspended Lochte for ten months following his confession.
Viewers took to Twitter to express their feelings about the uncalled for incident.
I understand some people have mixed emotions about Ryan Lochte, but that shouldn't result in violence.#DWTS
