One Direction consists of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and previously Zayn Malik. They were formed by Simon Cowell on the singing competition show The X Factor in July 2010. After coming in third place on The X Factor, Simon decided to sign the boys to his record label Syco Records. It seems like everything was going just right for these young boys who just wanted to live out their dreams. Ever since then, you can pretty much say their whole lives have changed, for better and for worse.
The boys of One Direction have been through so much since they were put together 5 years ago. They have been through everything from signing a contract, leaving home at a young age, pr stunts, fake girlfriends, fake images, no freedom, no breaks, being stuck with a terrible management and record label, and everything else you could possibly imagine. It hasn’t all been rainbows and sunshine, it hasn’t been easy, they have been through hell and back, but they are still here and going strong.
As you all know, One Direction are a pop boy band which means that even though they have grown up over the years, they are still seen as 16 year old boys with a fanbase made up of 12 year olds. There is no denying that people love to make fun of pop music, but when you add a boy band to the mix, people don’t take that well. They do not get taken seriously by people outside of their fans because people still love to judge them based off songs from when their careers first started. People don’t pay attention to how they have changed and grown over 5 years, because to be honest, they just don’t care.
They also don’t get taken seriously because a lot of people think their fame was handed to them on a silver platter, which is the farthest thing from the truth. Yes there are a lot of celebrities that didn’t have to work for what they wanted and they even got their fame handed to them, but that is not the case for One Direction. They have worked so hard to get where they are at now! They know that, their family and friends know that, and even their fans know that. Some people might not believe that is the case, but oh well because it’s the truth. I am so proud of how far they have came and I know there are tons of other people feel exactly the same way.
One thing people have to remember is that they were young boys who grew up in front of the wold. Growing up in general isn’t an easy thing, but just imagine doing it while everyone is watching. They have made mistakes, they have said things they shouldn’t have said, they have done things they shouldn’t have done, but that is what makes them human. Nobody, I mean nobody in this world is perfect. Just because they are famous, that doesn’t mean they aren’t like us because in reality, they are exactly like us.
There are so many reasons why One Direction deserve to be respected, but one reason off the top of my head is that they actually use their fame to help people. I think that is one of the most amazing things celebrities can do. If you have the power to help people, why not? They are involved with different charities like BBC’S Children in Need, Eden Dora Trust, Comic Relief, Trekstock, and more. Since the beginning of their careers, they have helped raised so much money for so many different charities. People might think they support charities because of publicity, but what people don’t realize is that One Direction are genuinely just good people. Why is that so hard to see?
If you are a fan, you would know that One Direction have been working non-stop since 2010, but earlier this year, they revealed that they will finally be taking a well deserved break next year. The boys have promised to return after their break and if they do, I hope they are well rested, excited, and the happiest they have ever been. They deserve it.
If there is one thing that I know for sure, that is that One Direction are amazing and they deserve your respect. Unless you have been living under a rock for 5 years (or for however long you have known about them), you would know that since the beginning of their journey, the boys have never really gotten the respect they deserve, and to be honest, they probably never will. Even though they are good people, they are sweet to their fans, and they do so much for others, people will always hate and there is nothing we can do about it. The good thing is that they have fans who have stuck by them for years and will always stick by them, and honestly, that’s all they really need.
