Just hours ago, Samira Wiley announced her engagement all over social media to OITNB writer and producer, Lauren Morelli.
The photo shows Samira and Lauren looking as over the moon as ever, whilst Samira flashes the gorgeous diamond right at the camera and displays that huge smile that we all adored her for on OITNB. They’re such a lovely couple!

Lauren said she discovered she was gay when she began writing the sexual scenes for Laura Prepon and Taylor Schilling’s characters, Piper and Alex. She started working on the show five months after her first wedding to Steve Basilon and realised she was gay in 2012, on one of the very first days on the OITNB set. When she realised she was falling for a woman, she began to panic and fell in to periods of depression, leading to her divorce, but to keep her happiness she began writing herself in to the character, Piper.
Samira and Lauren began dating in 2014, shortly after Lauren’s divorce and clearly have been happy ever since! We’re very happy that Lauren has found her true self and did what was best for herself, and we’re also happy for Samira for finding the happiness she deserves. We’ll never get over Poussey’s death!
