Last year we said goodbye to The Vampire Diaries, this year we say goodbye to the beloved spin-off series, The Originals.
Julie Plec has released a statement on Twitter today, announcing that season five will be its final season. After The Vampire Diaries had ended, there was worry that The Originals wouldn’t be able to stand alone, however, this year they announced a season five, giving us all the hope in the world that they would be just fine.
The Originals has not been cancelled, this is a decision between the crew; and Julie Plec speaks about being able to have control over ending the show, something that not all shows get the opportunity of. “It’s both a gift and a burden to control the ending of a series. Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has to come.”

Joseph Morgan, who plays lead role, Klaus Mikaelson, is the first of the cast to speak up about the series ending, with a heart-warming tweet.
#TheOriginalsS5 will be our last. Thanks for your undying support & I hope you'll keep the darkest corner of your heart reserved for us ;)
