Overcoming barriers in a male-dominated world is something many – if not all – women have to focus on doing at some point in their lives, and that is exactly the inspiration behind “Breaking Glass Ceilings” by Paytra. This awesome new song has already broken barriers, going on to gain thousands of streams, and we’re not surprised considering Paytra’s strong and powerful voice and songwriting skills. This single release acts as the follow-up to her previous single “You Got The Sauce”.
Paytra, a fierce symbol of feminism and strength, hails from small-town Michigan but ventured to New York City at 16 to chase her music dreams. Undeterred by the cutthroat music industry, she fearlessly honed her craft through dance classes, vocal lessons, and countless performances, emerging as a force to be reckoned with. Her genre-blending music, influenced by R&B, alt-funk, and ’70s soul, packs a powerful punch, addressing themes like self-reliance, sexism, racism, and sisterhood. Beyond her catchy hooks and dance-worthy beats, Paytra invests in female entrepreneurs, breaking down barriers for women in male-dominated industries. In 2023, she released her five-song EP “Momma Taught Me How To Fight” and is gearing up to release her forthcoming full-length album “Tiny But Mighty”, solidifying her position as a fearless and self-assured pop star, bringing change and empowerment to the world of pop music.
Written by Eric Michael Cohen and Paytra Renee Gessler, and produced by the former, “Breaking Glass Ceilings” is a huge female-empowerment pop-rock track that is prominently alternative although there’s mainstream energy flowing throughout. Paytra’s incredible hard-hitting vocals throw out fired-up lyrics that are full of shattered glass – her emotions and passion flow enough to not only break glass ceilings but also rise high into the sky. The aggressive pop-rock instrumentation of the backing track warps emphatically around Paytra’s vocals creating a fearless track that is sure to inspire many women and create motivation and unapologetic recognition for the underdogs and the ones who are breaking glass ceilings.
“I was raised to never doubt myself and that I could do anything a man could do. So once I got into the real world and realized other people HADN’T been raised that way… and that I had to work even harder to get the same respect as the men in the room– I felt rage. That’s what this song represents to me,” explains Paytra. “To any girl reading this… know that it will be hard. You will be treated differently because of being a woman. But also know that it’s okay to bust down the door if it’s not being opened for you.”
