Miami-based pop-rock singer-songwriter Penelope Robin unveils her new single/music video, “Animal,” a song about escaping toxicity, whether a person, situation, or relationship.
Born into an artistic family, Penelope’s Venezuelan mother, a producer and director, has worked with Little Mix, Nile Rodgers, Kathy Sledge, and Martha Wash, while her father, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producer and songwriter C-Rod, is renowned for his work with Enrique Iglesias, Lady Gaga, Paulina Rubio, and Jennifer Lopez.
Now 15, Penelope started singing and acting when she was five years old, appearing at the age of eight in DJ Tony Moran’s video, “Take It All the Way.” In 2016, she became one of the faces of Karisma Resorts International Nickelodeon Experience, followed by performing at the Miami Youth Fair and the Locales Festival, alongside Fat Joe and Alexis y Fido.
Invited to share the stage with celebrated Colombian singer Karol G, as well as Puerto Rican singers Yandel, and Cosculluela during the CEG Festival 2017, in Buga, Colombia, Penelope wowed the audience with her performance.
In 2019, Penelope was selected as one of the winners of the Phil Collins Little Dreams Foundation and was a finalist in the Young Talent Big Dreams Competition sponsored by The Children’s Trust. The summer of 2019 found her touring the Northeast, performing at Simon Malls, Playland Park, Adventureland, and the Jones Beach Festival.
The following year, Penelope performed in fundraisers, supporting charities close to her heart, as well as headlining the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, where she performed with a full band directed by Shakira’s legendary musician and producer Tim Mitchell.
When the pandemic hit, Penelope polished her songwriting, enhancing her evolving sound with potent guitars, heavy drums, and distinctive intertwining pop flavors, a sound summoning up suggestions of Gwen Stefani blended with Machine Gun Kelly and Billie Eilish.
“Animal” opens on exotic, seductive Latin tones rolling into a deliciously undulating melody. A throbbing bassline and finessed percussion form an alluring rhythm as Penelope’s vibrant, voluptuous voice, under exquisite lilting control, imbues the lyrics with wicked, haunting sensuality.
