Perrie continues to showcase her versatility as a recording artist in her own right this week, with the release of her rousing new single ‘You Go Your Way’.
The uplifting track was originally produced and released as an underground club single by London based dance duo Joy Anonymous, who played the song to Perrie in a writing session, and tells the story of a time at the start of the singers relationship with boyfriend footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, when they were in the honeymoon stage and not yet ‘official’.
“I told Alex, you go your way and I’ll go mine and if it’s meant to be we’ll find each other again when I am back,” a reflective Edwards says of the lyrical sentiment behind the single. “He wasn’t happy this idea and made our relationship official there and then! Fast forward 8 years and we are very happy, engaged and have our beautiful son. I truly believe if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not it was never meant to be.”
With additional production from Scottish musician Hudson Mohawke (Charli XCX), the powerful, mid-tempo pop anthem is driven by a soaring and emotive vocal performance from Perrie, along with a pulsating bass, that builds to big and bold chorus that feels both “empowering and cathartic”.
