Faroese-American soul-pop artist Marianna Winter is premiering the Quentin Tarantino-inspired official music video for her brand-new single ‘Consequences,’ released via TUTL Records today (May 4).
‘Consequences’ is the second single from her upcoming debut album, following the success of “Cruising,” a slick piece of a glorious melting pot of smooth warm synths coupled with her velvety vocals and infectious melodies. Staying true to her hybrid style, Marianna returns with her new spellbinding, groovy number, co-written with Joakim Buddee, Antonio Charry, and Ragnar Finsson, and produced by Joakim Buddee.
Musically, ‘Consequences’ is a radio-ready pop gem that envelops her hypnotic vocals coupled with rich guitars, pulsating rhythms and lush soundscapes, drawing us into a soothing world. It finds its inspiration from the singer’s formative years and dedicates to anybody whose inner self yearns to be ruthless, champagne-popping, and cutthroat; who wants to embrace their imperfections just right but covertly put on a mask to disguise their true self for the sake of society and cultural norms — for the comfort of others.

The anthemic appeal of the single, however, influences Marianna to unmask herself, let her guard down and embrace the imperfect woman she is underneath, who might be jealous and short-tempered sometimes, but she also gets things done and stands up for herself and anyone she loves. As the songstress implies, “It’s a part of me [that] I’m deeply ashamed of, but I’ve realised shaming her doesn’t make her go away, so why not embrace her a little? ‘Consequences’ is her song, her moment to shine.” Crazy or not, she is none other than the Lo-Fi queen of the Faroe Islands, who’s using American no-bullshit assertiveness on top of a minimalist, yet confrontational funky beat that leads her voice to the Nordic dancefloor.
The latest preview of ‘Consequences’ is an intensely dark, gory yet ironically funny Quentin Tarantino-inspired music video debuting today — starring the songstress embracing her inner rebel girl. The gender role-reversal video, directed by Trygvi Danielsen, has dark, icy, and malevolent vibes and depicts reenactments of various well-known Quentin Tarantino film moments. However, the key plot twist involves swapping gender roles to portray how dysfunctional and messed up they present the women on-screen while simultaneously criticising society’s ingrained stereotyped mindset.
Talking about the making of the music video, Marianna Winter said: “Both the director and I love Quentin Tarantino and immediately started imagining different iconic scenes from his movies to reenact. True Tarantino fans will hopefully understand why I’m getting beer poured in my mouth off a foot.” And don’t worry fans, she informed us they cleaned the foot well, taking care of the hygiene! ;)
