Singer-songwriter Thomas Priest premieres his new EP, Wake Up Call, on CelebMix. Recorded in Nashville, and produced by Rian Dawson of All Time Low, the EP features five mesmerizing tracks.
From East Northport, Long Island, Priest fell under the spell of music on his 13th birthday, while playing the electric guitar. In short order, he mastered the instrument along with acoustic and bass guitars. At the age of 15, he made his first appearance on stage, performing at his high school’s talent show.
One year later, Priest began writing and recording his own music in a studio, laying down two compelling tracks attracting vast attention. Releasing his first EP, entitled Puzzles, Priest is back with Wake Up Call, brandishing his evolving sound.
The first track on Wake Up Call is “Distant Memory,” opening on grinding muscular guitars flowing into a contagious pop-punk-flavored melody riding a tasty driving rhythm topped by Priest’s voice, full of edgy colors yet hecka-melodic. A tight searing guitar solo ramps the tune up to grandiose harmonic elevation.
“Ignorance” opens on dark oozing tones seguing into a potent alt-pop melody. A syncopated rhythm infuses the tune with rolling energy, as Priest’s evocative tones travel above. When he goes falsetto, the lyrics take on glistening luster, smooth and bright. “Safe Tonight” features an elegant piano intro topped by Priest’s tender timbres, escalating with swelling tonalities. A charismatic female voice adds to the tune’s scrumptious resonance. As the music mousses up, a guitar-driven wall-of-sound encompasses the soundscape, rife with nuanced flavors and residual dynamism.
The title track opens on deep, dark colors riding on a powerfully infectious groove, as hefty guitar savors imbue the tune with brawny chunkiness. A soft, creamy breakdown shifts the harmonic flow, leading to a beefy, oh so prevailing conclusion.
“What Do We Do” features a gentle acoustic guitar providing accompaniment to Priest’s dulcet voice, sensitive and tinged with melancholic flavors, as well as pressing affection. This is a beautiful song, full of luminous textures and velvety surface hues.
Wake Up Call is a grand EP, displaying a variety of stylistic sounds saturated with fresh, innovative melodies, magnetic rhythms and the gratifying voice of Thomas Priest.
