BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge is famous for getting superstars to perform stripped back versions of their hit tracks along with covers of massive songs from other artists. Superstars such as Cheryl, Selena Gomez, Adele, and more have all enjoyed stellar performances in the intimate setting.
There have been many highlights over the years. Adele covered Cheryl’s ‘Promise This’ during one of her Live Lounge sessions and it was absolutely stunning. Proving that it is the perfect place to put your own spin on any song from any genre.
But one act who is yet to have performed in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge is the record breaking country music duo Ward Thomas. The UK act made up of twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy made history last year by becoming the first ever British country act to have a song played on Radio 1 without being part of the BBC Introducing scheme. They achieved the incredible feat when Scott Mills played their hit single ‘Guilty Flowers‘. But despite having airplay on Radio 1 they have yet to be invited for a Live Lounge Session.
We think they would be the perfect act to do a session as they have proved time and time again that they can put their own spin on any song from any artist. During their YouTube Snug Sessions they have performed hits from the likes of Justin Bieber, Years and Years, Mike Posner, Shawn Mendes, and many more. And back in March the duo released a covers EP tiled ‘A Shorter Story‘ which features covers of tracks from the likes of Kings of Leon, and Justin Timberlake.
Ward Thomas are also famous for performing beautiful stripped back versions of their own hits such as ‘Carry You Home‘, and ‘Guilty Flowers’. Making them the perfect artists to perform a Radio 1 Live Lounge Session.
We hope we will soon see Ward Thomas doing a Radio 1 Live Lounge Session!
