The first Saturday night TV war of 2016 has begun in earnest, with Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway claiming an early victory against BBC’s The Voice UK.
Overnight data shows that Takeway was seen by 7.4 million viewers (33% of the TV audience), putting it up by almost a million viewers on 2015’s underwhelming 6.6 million. The Voice continued to stutter, being seen by just 5.6 million (24.5% of the audience) compared to last year’s 6.75 million (which also clashed with SNT).
The new coaches on the BBC’s (soon to be ITV’s) karaoke contest have divided opinion, with some turning off due to Paloma Faith’s laugh and many others clamouring for the return of Grandpa Tom Jones.
