Rising artist TAELA has just unveiled her latest emotional ballad, “Unforgivable”, a song that delves deep into the intricacies of toxic relationships. Released under the Young Forever/Capitol Records label, this reflective track showcases TAELA’s signature unfiltered lyricism and heartfelt melodies. This acts as the follow-up to “beetlejuice (dead to me)”.
Originating from the culturally diverse landscape of Saint Louis, Missouri, TAELA embarked on an inspiring musical journey. In 2021, she made a bold move, leaving her roots to chase her songwriting aspirations in Nashville. Her determination bore fruit when she secured a publishing deal with Kobalt, allowing her to channel her creativity into writing and recording. As a result, her music has garnered over 36 million global streams to date. In February 2022, TAELA took the music scene by storm with her self-released single, “trophy”. The track went on to gain over 6.2 million global streams across platforms, leading the way for hits like “i don’t cry when i’m high” and “good in bed”, which collectively accumulated over 9 million global streams. This set the stage for the highly anticipated release of her album, “life’s a bitch”, in November 2022. In 2023, TAELA released an expanded version of her October 2022 EP, “life’s a bitch…still”, which further explores the raw emotions of life’s challenges and triumphs. Now, she’s gone ahead and dropped her new album “life’s a bitch… but it gets better”, spreading self-empowerment and positivity.
Co-written in collaboration with JP Saxe and Robert Francis Grimaldi, with the latter producing the track, “Unforgivable” explores the concept of a trauma bond, a profound and often destructive attachment to a toxic relationship. The rhythmic pace of the track blends well with her honest vocals full of integrity and emotion, fully allowing the listener to resonate. Effortlessly making a statement and fully encapsulating mainstream pop as we know it, TAELA proves she’s one to watch in the coming years.
TAELA, reflecting on her own experiences, shares, “I wrote ‘Unforgivable’ about being so deeply attached to a toxic relationship that it would take your partner doing something completely unforgivable for you to leave. Having a trauma bond is the worst type of addiction. I heard someone say it’s worse than being addicted to drugs or alcohol because drugs and alcohol can’t text or call you begging for you to come back. As someone who’s been trauma bonded before, I was super inspired to write about what it feels like to have this attachment.”
In “Unforgivable”, TAELA’s raw and unfiltered songwriting style lays bare the painful and uncomfortable truths that come with toxic relationships. While it may be discomforting for some, her music offers a healing opportunity for those who can relate to her lyrics. She passionately shares, “I thought about the things my ex did to get me to hate them enough to leave and said, ‘fuck it, I’m gonna just lay it all out there’. When I started teasing the song online, I was amazed by how many people resonated with the lyrics. I think it can be uncomfortable for some people to listen to but really healing for whoever needs to hear it.”
