Once a part of the iconic band from the 90s “No Authority”, Ricky Rebel is now making his mark in the music scene as a solo artist. The singer has worked with Grammy award winning producer/songwriter Rodney “Dark Child” Jerkins and toured with Pop princess Britney Spears.
Rebel made a significant impact within the music scene when his singles, “If You Were My Baby” and “Boys & Sometimes Girls” peaked at #40 and #28 on the Billboard Dance/Club songs charts in 2017.
Today, CelebMix is premiering the acoustic version of Ricky Rebel’s single “Life Is A Runway”. On 27th September, the singer-songwriter released the music video for the track. Walking through the streets of NYC and Gay Pride Parade, Rebel can be seen proclaiming his identity as an individual whose “self” goes beyond the definitions set by the society.
“Wear your clothes, don’t let your clothes wear you”
By playing around with the commonly used phrase (the title of the video), Rebel explores the idea of “being confident in one’s self”. Featuring Vivacious, the playful tone of the acoustic version creates a balance between the music and the subject matter of the single but one listen does makes the listener sit and think about the message.
Last month, Rebel released his new album “The New Alpha”. Shared in their review for the album, Huffpost said,
“The New Alpha” encompasses the captivating themes of “Power”, Sex”, “Vanity”, and “Love”, screaming an artist inspired desire for certain parts of society to “toughen up and stop playing the victim role. I feel like there is a war against masculinity. I wanted to confront that and inspire people to balance their own masculine and feminine selves.”
His latest album The New Alpha made Louder Than War’s top 75 albums of 2017 list.
