Liverpool-based five-piece Girl Group continue their ascent to the top of planet pop this week with the release of their latest single ‘Flink Pike’.

With it’s title derived from a Nordic expression meaning “good girl” – a phrase often used to describe young women striving to meet impossible expectations – the quirky sounding track sharply critiques the contradictory pressures placed on females, questioning society’s rigid definitions of femininity.
Produced by the band along with Maria Olsen Tollisen, the contemporary pop anthem serves as the follow up to the girls previous release ‘Yay! Saturday’ which gained support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, The Line of Best Fit and Sir Elton John.
Commenting on the single, the band say: “We see young girls trying to perform to the pressure of being everything at once and completely agreeable—getting the best grades, being the life of the party, head of student council, etc. But it’s used to show how our expectations of young girls are much higher than those of young boys.”
Filmed in Girl Group’s local Liverpool ballet studio, and inspired by the “meticulously crafted aesthetics of Sofia Coppola and Wes Anderson”, the songs accompanying music places the band members in a surreal audition setting, where they are forced to compete for approval.
According to a press release: “through subtle gestures and expressions, their personality and humour shines through, revealing the underlying tension between expectation and individuality for women: Flink Pike.”
