Ruel takes to the streets of Paris in ‘Face To Face’ music video

Ruel is back with his head-turning soulful sound on ‘Face To Face’.

Wandering the streets of the French capital and city of love, Ruel looks to impress his celebrity crush, played by ECÂF (who might or might not be a figment of Ruel’s imagination, stan twitter are currently working that out). A quick stop to pick up a dress before conning his way backstage into Paris’ prestigious Les Etoiles venue for an ECÂF show, the Australian is soon turfed out by security. The cheeky video shot during the Paris heatwave of June saw Ruel invite fans to take part as extras in the venue.

Another new single for fans as Ruel hurtles towards the release of his hotly anticipated Free Time EP in September, the 16-year-old continues to prove his worth of the ‘next big thing’ tag (if he isn’t already big enough). He tells the millenial story of a social media crush on ‘Face To Face’ with a classy sound that could be from decades ago. Written alongside M-Phazes (see Ruel collaboration ‘Golden Days‘) and Joseph Angel (one of the minds behind Rihanna’s ‘Love on the Brain’), it’s another twist in sound since the release of April’s ‘Painkiller‘.

“I don’t really want to be pigeon-holed in any one genre, I just want to make my own music and it’s sick when artists have their own genre”, Ruel told CelebMix before his sold-out London show in June.

“I did want to go for a different sound [on Free Time] just because I knew what I wanted more than ever. When I was writing for the previous EP it was my first time writing with other people. I’d literally say yes to everything as the 14-year-old in the room and I thought if I said no, no-one would listen to me. It was very daunting at the start but now that I know what I want and am way better at writing and more confident I can just go in and say, “this is what I want to do, can you help me?” Try and take control.I love the songs [on Ready] but I just knew they could be better and come from me better.”

It’s a decision easy to hear on ‘Face To Face’ which hits streaming services today as Ruel prepares to hit the road in Australia to support the Free Time EP this September. Tickets available here.
