GQ Magazine has named the hilarious Ryan Reynolds as one of their Men of the Year!
Reynolds has had a very busy 2016 with the smash hit film Deadpool coming and turning the superhero world upside down.
He has also recently become a father for the second time as he and his wife, Blake Lively, welcomed daughter number two in September.
And now, he is GQ‘s Man of the Year! We think Mr. Reynolds is doing pretty good for himself.
The actor sat down with GQ at a barn which Reynolds jokingly called the “war room”.
Here, he revealed, is where he wrote the screenplay for Deadpool and where the sequel is developing alongside co-writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Rheese.

He also sweetly revealed the exact moment when he fell in love with his beautiful wife although he joked at first it was “probably after the sex”.
“No, we were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that’s open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, ‘Want to dance?’ No one was in there, so it was just totally empty.”
“And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, ‘Oh, I think I just crossed a line.’ And then I walked her home.”
“And, uh, you know, I don’t really need to go into what happened after that.” he told GQ.
He also talked about how he is quite literally living the dream with Lively and their two daughters.
“I’m on the precipice of having a real American family,”
“I mean, I always imagined that would happen, and then it happened. Every idiotic Hallmark-card cliché is true.”
How cute!
Reynolds also discussed the estranged relationship he had with his father who is sadly no longer with us.
However, he did tell the magazine that things got repaired to the best they could before he passed away.
“I had a rough 10-year patch with my father. So we were estranged. Now we’re really estranged.”
“But I actually had that sort of epic moment that only happens in films where I saw him before he died and closed the loop as much as I could.”
“…The hardest part for me is that he was always kind of a mystery. I just don’t feel like I ever had a real conversation with him.”

While talking about films, Reynolds got to talk about his most beloved – Deadpool.
There is nobody who is as obsessed with Deadpool as he is! But his love for the character is what made the film a smash hit which surprised everyone, including Reynolds himself.

GQ asked the actor was it felt like to see such an underrated character become such a hit and when did he know they were onto something huge.
“When the Thursday midnight numbers were so excessive that I just went, “Whoa.” We made our production budget back on Friday.”
“There’s a certain vindication that comes with that, especially because the studio—granted, under different regimes—for years just kept telling us to go f*ck ourselves sterile.”
It is well known that Reynolds has been trying to make Deadpool work for 11 years and despite his best efforts, the studio initially did not respond well.
Until that famous test footage that was ‘leaked’ online…
“Once the test footage of Deadpool leaked, that created a groundswell of support.”
“And the studio responded to that groundswell by saying, ‘Okay, here’s the absolute bare minimum amount of money that we will give this character.’ It took 11 years to make it.”
And look how well it has gone! Reynolds is now a superstar although it isn’t all as glam and glitzy as you’d expect.
Reynolds revealed he, unfortunately, suffered a nervous breakdown after completing the first Deadpool film.

“When it finally ended, I had a little bit of a nervous breakdown. I literally had the shakes.”
“I went to go see a doctor because I felt like I was suffering from a neurological problem or something. And every doctor I saw said, ‘You have anxiety.'”
But he now feels ready to take on his alter-ego again, ready for the highly anticipated sequel.
He’s finally able to be the Merc with a Mouth he’s always wanted to be, much to the delight of fans worldwide.
Speaking of alter egos, Reynolds responded to becoming GQ‘s Man of the Year by getting interviewed by his jealous twin ‘brother’.
