Multi-talented artist and producer sagun launches Arden Records, along with releasing a new EP, entitled Arden, a collaboration with the label’s artists, including sagun, clay house, pecan, slow-key, Trankilo, and wrong number.
sagun explains, “We named the label ‘Arden,’ which means ‘a great forest,’ because I’ve always been inspired by nature. Being an independent artist was always my goal, but even more so, I always carried the dream of starting a label and creating opportunities to positively impact talented upcoming artists and help make their musical journeys easier. In the beginning of my career, I didn’t have a team and lacked music industry knowledge, but through starting Arden Records, I want to help artists achieve their goals by offering my guidance and providing the proper resources I never knew I needed. I also want to thank my manager, Jordan Smith, because this never would have been possible without him, and I’m excited to work with Platoon and Andrew Kwan to make Arden Records a household name.”
The mission of Arden Records founders – sagun, Jordan Smith (S+ MGMT), and Andrew Kwan (Romantic Music Group) – is to reverse the tendency of lo-fi labels to cash in on the lack of bargaining power of new, young producers, followed by signing them to unfavorable contracts. By shifting the paradigm and putting artists first, Arden Records’ approach connotes an enormous change in the landscape of the music industry.
Originally from Nepal, sagun broke through in 2017, releasing “I’ll Keep You Safe,” which sampled the mysterious Shiloh Dynasty. The track has amassed more than 127 million streams on Spotify. Following with “I’m Drunk And Confused,” “Worst Day,” and his Yellow Hills EP, sagun collected over 200 million streams.
Arden encompasses six versions of “Arden,” highlighted by the low-slung, chill, and gleaming title track. “clay House Remix,” features velvety, alluring vocals, imbuing the lyrics with delicious surfaces.
With Arden, Arden Records sets the stage for lo-fi producers to flock to the new label, where creativity and artistry are more than mottos.
