After a behind-the-scenes video gave us a sneak peak at the first footage, and a recently released striking new poster hit the internet, Warner Brothers have released the very first trailer for Kong: Skull Island at….yep, you guessed it…San Diego Comic Con.
The film stars Brie Larson, the Oscar Winning Actress who shot to fame after her starring role in Room, and Tom Hiddleston (of Thor, The Night Manager and HiddleSwift fame) in leading roles, but it was their co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman that took the forefront in the trailer, taking up most of the screen time and with Goodman’s character delivering a haunting and daunting speech to Jackson’s character serving as the trailers tense, eerie voice over.
The film is a re-imagining of the King Kong myth, rather than a direct sequel or reboot to Peter Jackson’s 2005 version (which was itself a reboot of Merian C. Coopers 1933 original), and will see the super-sized simian stand at a colossal 100 feet, double the size of the King Kong we have seen in previous adaptations.
The trailer teases epic action and adventure, with beautiful, striking visual images and cinematography that really captures the 70s feel the movie is going for.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of many a Funny or Die sketch, who made his directorial debut with 2013’s indie flick The Kings of Summer, will be directing, with Legendary Pictures, the company behind 2014’s Godzilla reboot, producing. It is expected that Legendary will pit two of Hollywoods most famous monsters together in 2020, with a King Kong vs Godzilla style film suggested to be one of the main reasons behind the fact King Kong was doubled in size for Kong: Skull Island.
Between Kong, Wonder Woman and Justice League, it’s safe to say that Warner Brothers are killing it at Comic Con, and have caused mass hype and hysteria amongst cinema-goers and movie lovers tonight!
Kong: Skull Island will be released on March 10, 2017, and the full trailer can be seen below. Let us know what you think of it on Twitter @CelebMix.
