This year marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary San Diego Comic Con. (Can you believe?) It’s hard to believe that this annual convention that takes place in the heart of San Diego has been bringing us the best in the world of pop culture and comics for the last 50 years. With that said, this year is bound to be bigger than years past. And don’t worry, our team will be reporting back the best and greatest news so be sure to stay tuned all weekend long! Since today kick starts the official first day of Comic Con, we thought now is a great time to list a few things we’re looking forward to this year.
Pop-ups + Activations
Didn’t score a ticket to SDCC? Fear not. You can have just as much fun outside the convention center with activations scattered all around. We’ve heard good things about NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine immersive experience and you can never go wrong with Adult Swim on the Green (a must for you Rick and Morty fans!). Pro-tip: Don’t forget to head to the back where you might score a view of your favorite celebs on the IMDBoat where Kevin Smith will be conducting his must-see interviews with the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Supergirl, Riverdale and much more. You can even score a chance to hop aboard on the boat, too!
(Can’t make the trip? Stream the event live on Twitch!)
#ConanCon
Another great part of SDCC that doesn’t require a badge (but does require a ticket) is #ConanCon. This year’s guests include the cast of It: Chapter Two and Veronica Mars. It’s one of the most coveted tickets of the weekend (other than a badge itself).
Brand New Televison and Movie Teasers
SDCC is one of the prime places to see what to look forward to in the upcoming months. We already know a few lucky fans will get to see an exclusive sneak peek into It: Chapter 2 during ScareDiego but let’s not forget Pennywise, Westworld, and a whole new slew of shows/movies eager to grab the attention of viewers now. It’s the perfect time now than ever to decide what to add to your must-watch list.
The Hidden Gem Panels
While SDCC may be known for bringing some top names in pop culture, let’s not not forget all the other comic panels such as “Diversity and Comics: Why Inclusion Matters” and “Women of Color in Comics: Race, Gender, and the Comic Book Medium.” At the heart and soul of it, Comic Con is a dream come true for lifelong comic lovers old and new.
You know the room… Hall H
Yes, the legendary Hall H that is best known for debuting some of the greatest news of all time. You’ve heard about it. We’ve read about it. This year, the Game of Thrones cast will be back for a mini-reunion sans the show runners, Marvel is fingers crossed ready to release news about Phase 4 during the Marvel Studios Panel, and fan favorite show Supernatural will take its usual spot on Sunday which is sure to be a treat knowing we’re closing in on the series finale. Anyone else freaking out just thinking about it?
