According to head of Interscope Records John Janick and vice chairman Steve Berman, Selena Gomez has a game-changing album up her sleeve.
The pair sat down with Hits Daily Double earlier this week to discuss their ongoing success, in addition to the label’s artists and what is to come as they take the music industry by storm.
“Selena—I think we’ve only scratched the surface with her,” Janick explained. “When I signed her, she wanted to figure out how to transition to a more mature sound, and her last album was the biggest she’s ever had. But the next one, from what music we have already, blows away what she did before. There was some great music on the last album and big hits with ‘Good For You’ and ‘Same Old Love.’ But, the music she’s making now is next level.”
The label CEO also revealed that Gomez has been testing new waters and working with new producers and writers for her latest project.
“I think there are a lot of artists now who are going to be putting out music that will sound similar to what she did on her last album.”
The singer’s 2015 LP Revival debuted at number on the US Billboard 200 and went on to crank out their number-one singles on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. The record was also featured on Rolling Stone‘s “50 Best Albums of 2015” list.
There is no word on exactly when Gomez’s new music is due out. Billboard reported last month that the 24-year-old was “putting a pause” on creating new content to focus on her charity work, as well as taking time to enjoy her personal life.
“I’m doing things that I love. That I’m passionate about. That I care about,” the songstress said. “It just makes me happy.”
