Award-winning global superstar Shakira returns with her thrilling new single ‘Don’t Wait Up’.
Co-written by Ian Kirkpatrick and Emily Warren, ‘Don’t Wait Up’ is a vibrant and uplifting bop which marks Shakira’s first all-English track since her 2017 songs ‘When a Woman’ and ‘What We Said featuring MAGIC!, taken from her album El Dorado.
The liberating anthem sees Shakira leave her lover behind for the night, telling them ‘don’t wait up’ as she enjoys some space to tear up the dance floor. “Don’t let your mind think it’s someone else, I need to do something for myself” she sings over the electronic production.
The track comes accompanied by a gorgeous visual filmed in the isle of Tenerife, Canary Islands. The singer spent several days filming at Abama Resort Tenerife and the result is a stunning high energy video which sees Shakira living her best life in the water and on the dance floor.
Speaking about her latest release, Shakira said: “I’m excited to share my new song ‘Don’t Wait Up’ with everyone — the day we came up with this in the studio, I knew it would be perfect for summer and those nights where you just want to not think about tomorrow!”
Shakira also revealed to Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1 that she is busy making new music every day, so we’ve got our fingers crossed for even more from the artist very soon. “Last night I was working in the studio, sat with Poo Bear and Sasha Sirota, who are also amazing creators and just amazing people, and I had so much fun. I just keep making music every day. I feel like a horse that’s been on the stable for too long and now I want to just run wild. My imagination is going at 1000 per hour and I’m just thinking of songs and ideas all the time. And I haven’t felt like that in a long time so I’m very excited about that.”
‘Don’t Wait Up’ is available to download and stream now.
