July 7 marks one year since YouTuber Shane Dawson came out as bisexual. In the video, Shane opens up about the struggles of being attracted to both men and women. He said that it would be easier if he was either gay or straight. Instead, he is somewhere in the middle. Many fans supported Shane and shared their own struggles with being bisexual.
Shane also explained in the video that he and fellow Youtuber, Lisa Schwartz, had broken up. Shane explained that he loves Lisa but he needs some time to figure out who he is as a sexual being.

Throughout the course of the year, Shane shared more videos of his thoughts on being bisexual. In a video released in February of 2016, titled “My Thoughts On Dating Guys,” he states that he doesn’t know how to be in a relationship with a man. He says dating women comes natural because he knows what role he plays in the relationship. However, with men, Shane is confused about the role he should take in the relationship.
He says, “If you’re a guy, and you start dating a guy, and you don’t know how to do that, it can turn into a friendship very fast.”
Shane and his ex-girlfriend Lisa are still very close, and have done several collaboration videos since the breakup. They remain best friends and are supportive of one another.
On the 1 year anniversary of his coming out video, Shane tweeted:

Although Shane is still figuring out who he is, he is helping many fans along his journey who also identify as bisexual. Shane has come a long way since his coming out video, and we are very proud of him!
