On March 7th, 2019, the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam saw the opening show of Shawn’s third world tour, aptly names Shawn Mendes: The Tour (which comes after his third album Shawn Mendes: The Album). Joining him on tour is fellow Canadian artist, Alessia Cara.
Before the show, VIP ticket holders walked through the Museum, a hall where motifs from over the years have been displayed including Shawn’s outfits from past music videos, lanyards from past tours, a framed photo of him with Taylor Swift, etc.
Following is a Q&A room, which Shawn promised months ago would have ‘cozy vibes only’. The room has multiple backdrops for photos, and cushions and blankets for fans to lounge on while they spend an hour speaking with him.
During the session, Shawn confirmed he would release his highly anticipated work in progress Stuck On You, a song fans have waited forever for since he teased a snippet on his Instagram in 2018.
While all aesthetics for Shawn Mendes: The Tour can be looked at as an upgrade from Illuminate World Tour, the centre piece has had a specific change. While Illuminate had a Moon that lit up arenas, this tour has a Rose that blooms as songs go by.
The setlist opens with Lost In Japan, and includes fan favourites from over the years like Bad Reputation and Ruin in addition to songs from his newest album, like Why and Particular Taste. Shawn included the bridge from his collaboration with Camila Cabello, I Know What You Did Last Summer, which blends into Mutual. He closed the show with a cover of Fix You by Coldplay and the absolute anthem that is In My Blood.
CelebMix wishes Shawn, Alessia and the whole crew best of luck for their year of touring!
