Shawn Mendes has been announced as the recipient of Billboard’s inaugural Artist of the Year award after a massively successful year full of awards and chart-topping hits. Billboard confirmed this news on September 18, 2018 and the Billboard Live Music Awards will take place on Tuesday November 13, 2018.
Mendes is no stranger to accomplishing things most 20-year-olds can only dream of and this achievement is simply another addition to his impressive list. This particular award recognizes Mendes as an artist making accomplishments both in the studio and on tour. The 20-year-old musician and young icon will be recognized for his Illuminate World Tour and the upcoming tour for his third released and self-titled album.
During Billboard’s 2018 Live Music Summit, Mendes will take part in an interview with his manager Andrew Gertler. Melinda Newman, Billboard’s West Coast Editor, will conduct the interview and speak to Mendes about how artists can build meaningful connections with their fans.

Social media is a huge aspect of Mendes’ life and any stars which occur during this era. As many of his fans know, Mendes cannot be absent on Twitter for more than 24 hours without fans asking if he is ok. Even with a busy schedule and constantly touring or being in the studio, Shawn Mendes constantly finds time to answer questions and reply to fans on social media.
The 20-year-old artist took the stage at the BBMAs about four months ago to perform his hit song ‘In My Blood’ followed by a powerful performance of his collaboration with Khalid titled ‘Youth.’
Khalid and Shawn Mendes were accompanied by students from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas show choir after the tragedy that occurred at Stoneman Douglas High School.
In terms of more achievements, Mendes is also nominated for two Billboard Awards this year for ‘Favorite Social Artist’ and ‘Favorite Artist — Adult Contemporary.’
