Shrek 5 is on its way but it’s being reinvented

It’s hard to get your head around the fact that Shrek has been in our lives for 16 years. The Dreamworks film franchise has had four incredible fairy-tale adventures. It’s been nearly seven years since we last saw the ogre and his donkey sidekick and cat companion in Shrek 4. The last time we were in Far Far Away – Shrek had 3 babies and was eventually happily married to Princess Fiona. However, when you’re a giant green ogre, there will always be adventure to have.

This week the film world has been rocked with the news that Michael McCullers (Screen writer of Hotel Transylvania 3 and Mr. PeaBody and Sherman) has delivered the Shrek 5 script to Universal. Michael said “I finished that script which I really, really, really love,” to the website CinemaBlend. Talking of the reinvention McCullers told CinemaBlend: “Reinvention was sort of called for. There’s been four movies and a lot of material, so the characters are pretty beloved and they’re great characters, but you also have to think of a pretty new take at that point”.

Mccullers also revealed that Shrek 5 is currently projected to open in 2019.

It is currently unknown if Mike Myers (voice of Shrek), Cameron Diaz (voice of Princess Fiona), Eddie Murphy (voice of Donkey) or Antonio Banderas (voice of Puss in Boots) have signed already to be a part of the fifth instalment. But we don’t even want to imagine Shrek without Mike Myers behind his voice.

Although no information on what will happen in the film has been released or even if any of the iconic cast are returning, we are certain that Shrek 5 will be a massive smash! Shrek Forever After made $70,838,207 within its first weekend of being screened.
