Simon Cowell spoke about the future of One Direction earlier this week and the ‘exclusive’ interview gave absolutely no new light on One Direction’s hiatus. It did however, leave us wondering if Simon knows the definition of the word hiatus – or the word promise.
While a small amount of people believe the boys made claims they had to as to pacify their fans – we choose to trust Harry, Louis, Niall, and Liam until we’re given a reason not to – and so far, we haven’t even been given a glimpse of one. There’s been no announcement made that would signify a change in plans, hell – for some of the lads, it seems like their hiatus has yet to actually begin, they’ve barely even had a moment to enjoy time away from their busy schedules yet.
Promise ?

After five long years of writing music, recording tracks, touring albums, and otherwise being away from friends, family, and a sense of normalcy – the boys deserve a break, and putting a time restraint on it would take away the ability to sit back and truly enjoy the time they take away. In all the interviews Niall, Louis, Harry, and Liam gave leading up to their hiatus – they spoke about how they’d be back, this was just a break, it was nothing to worry about – in fact, it was quite normal.
Can't thank you enough to be honest … Don't worry , we'll be back .. Looking forward to chilling for a while now

That fact remains unchanged.
So Simon, a few months into 2016, placing doubt in the minds of fans by a statement likely founded on nothing at all actually only serves to back up what most fans are already believing about One Direction’s return – that they’ll be back with different management.
“I don’t know if it’s a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don’t want to know. I don’t think they’ve had enough time to experience what it’s like not being in the group to really answer that.“
If the boys plan to come back with new people around them, it would make sense that Simon wouldn’t be made aware of their plans, and with good reason. Harry has already debuted with solo management from a different team entirely, and many believe that in due time, the rest of the lads will follow suit publicly -not only as individuals, but together.
After all, Liam said there was so much more to come.
Thank you so much for everything you have done for us it's been the most amazing five years and there's so much more to come

Days after Simon’s interview revealing that he knows nothing about One Direction’s future, an article was published by a source that was quite convinced that Louis was headed to be an X-Factor judge that said he’d changed his mind. Louis won’t be joining the judging table and while the reason given is him choosing to focus on his own label and scouting new talent, fans are convinced that this is just another cut in the ties that bind Louis (and the rest of One Direction) to Simon.
After all, we all saw this little facial expression not too long ago, didn’t we?
We miss the boys just as much as the next person, miss anticipating their tour dates, seeing videos and photos in the studio, on stage, and during writing sessions – but those days aren’t over forever, they’re just part of a story that’s on hold for now.
It all makes their inevitable return that much sweeter.
