On May 1st, a wildfire broke out in Fort McMurray, Canada. Within two hours of its discovery, it had grown from a size of two hectares to sixty. It rapidly spread throughout the city and more than eighty thousand had to quickly leave their homes behind. Since then, the community has received support from people all around the world-from boutique owners in Toronto offering to replace wedding dresses, offers from multiple countries to help fight the fire, and the one and only Simple Plan making a significant donation to help those in Fort McMurray.
Yesterday, the band announced that they would donate ten thousand dollars to The Red Cross in support of those in Fort Mac and encouraged others to help out with the following statement:
Following the news of the wildfires which caused mass devastation in Fort McMurray, Alberta, the members of Simple Plan along with the Simple Plan Foundation volunteers were shocked and saddened by the plight of evacuees. Having played a concert there just a few years ago, the band fondly remembers the warm reception they received from the fans and entire community.
The Simple Plan Foundation will donate $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in order to do its small part in helping those affected by this terrible tragedy and to help rebuild these proud communities.
Simple Plan would like to encourage all of their fans as well as all those touched by these events to join the growing movement of support in this country and to donate generously. To make a donation, please visitwww.redcross.ca.Our thoughts are with all those affected and we sincerely hope the community can quickly get back to some sense of normality. Courage.

Created in 2005, the Simple Plan Foundation’s mission is to help out young people in need, as well as those battling life-threatening illnesses. This isn’t the first time they’ve contributed towards communities in need. In 2010, they also supported the victims of an earthquake in Haiti that affected millions.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the fire in Fort McMurray!
