SINGLE REVIEW: Sarah Darling’s ‘Call Me’

Friday, December 14th saw American sweetheart and adopted Brit Sarah Darling release her brand new single ‘Call Me’. The track is the first official single lifted off the Country Music singer’s eagerly anticipated new album ‘Wonderland’ which is available for pre-order now through PledgeMusic and will be dropping on March 1st, 2019.

‘Call Me’ is unlike anything we have ever heard from the honey toned vocalist before. It has much more of a pop influence than what we heard on her previous album ‘Dream Country‘ but there is still a whimsical vibe in the overall production and lyrics that we have come accustomed to from Sarah’s music.

With Darling you are guaranteed to be taken on a journey through her music and ‘Call Me’ is no different. In fact it feels like a road trip via song. It has fun lyrics about wanting to be someones adrenaline rush that they can’t live without. Lines such as “Like that sting of a needle filling in the colour of a new tattoo” emphasise this need to be somebody’s buzz.

The track was penned with Sarah Buxton, Matt Peters Dragstrem, Daniel Tashian and produced by Jim Eliot before being recorded at the Splendido Studio in Haye-On-Wye in Wales. Talking about working with new people for this record, Darling says: “I’ve been in England for most of the year co-writing and working with producers. On this project, it’s really about new friends and new ideas. I literally would walk into a co-writing session, and had never met the person before. It’s so incredibly exciting to be finishing up the album, and to say I’ve recorded this in a different country. It’s a true reflection of me, and the current ride I’m on. Not to mention, I have new friends and memories for life. Music is about the connection. I’m so proud to share this trans-Atlantic collaboration. It’s the greatest adventure of my life to date!”

It’s a wonderful introduction to the ‘Wonderland’ LP as it showcases the many genre styles we can expect from the album which Sarah Darling has promised is her take on the Nashville meets London country sound.

Speaking about the track, Sarah says: “The whole concept of my ‘Wonderland’ album was to explore a brand new world artistically. Because of my connection to the U.K., I thought ‘what better place to bring my Nashville roots to be creative’. I think it’s good as an artist to stretch the boundaries, because you are always growing and that’s how you find new magic and move forward to wonderful, new places.”

RATING: 5/5
