To celebrate One Direction finally doing their first Live Lounge tomorrow – something fans have been waiting on for, well, five years, we thought it might be fun to look back on our favourite Live Lounge performances so far. With the help of our lovely twitter followers over at @Celebmix, we compiled this list of six must-see performances.
The 1975 – What Makes You Beautiful
To keep the 1D vibe that sparked this article alive, let’s start with this one. The 1975 effortlessly turned this pop anthem into a somewhat more dark and intense song and we can only hope that one day they’ll find the time to cover One Direction’s entire discography because this is so cool and Harry Styles would love it.
Sam Smith – Fast Car
Some songs are simply too massive to be covered and trying so should be considered blasphemy. We were expecting Fast Car to be one of those songs, but Sam Smith has proven us very very wrong. If there’s one man who can pull of covering a song as famous as Fast Car, it’s Sam Smith. Bonus points for the amazing musicians in this one.

Rudimental – Monster/Story of my Life
A combination of songs that seems a bit strange – but that’s what the Live Lounge is for, right? Rudimental manage to blend the verses of Story of my Life seamlessly with the chorus of Eminem and Rihanna’s Monster, even giving the last song a reggae-like twist.
Little Mix – Want To Want Me/I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Not that we needed any further proof of the vocal abilities of these four girls, but anyway. Mixing Jason Derulo with Whitney Houston and adding a gospel choir for good measure, Little Mix absolutely kills this performance.

Ed Sheeran – Dirrty
The list of songs we’d love to see Ed cover is quite gigantic and to be completely honest, Dirrty wasn’t on it – and what a mistake that was. Because as it turns out, seeing a guy as humble and down to earth as Ed Sheeran cover a song as, well, dirty as dirrty was something we definitely needed in our lives. Added bonus that’s totally irrelevant to the song but we wanted to point out anyway: Ed wears glasses in this video.
5 Seconds of Summer – Drown
Over at Celebmix’s twitter, a lot of you named 5sos’ version of Bring Me The Horizon’s ‘Drown’ as your favourite performance and we couldn’t agree more. It’s always good to see the 5sos boys in an acoustic setting instead of rocking around on a massive stage and the emotion they put in this cover is palpable.
