Fan funding seems to be all the rage at the moment with sites such as Indiegogo, Kickstarter and PledgeMusic making it possible for people with an inspired idea to make their pitch and let the public make up its mind as to whether they would like to support it or not.
This is also a major platform now for actors and musician alike, it leaves them being able to produce independent projects with the help of their loyal fans without the ties of studios and production companies placing restraints on them, it’s called freedom.
Solicit is a short film that has gone down this route and asked fans of it’s two major well known and popular stars to put their money where their mouth is, this they did and within 7 hours the project had reached it’s goal with fans buying such perks as giving up one of their daily cups of coffee for $5 to $500 for fans to actually go on set and be background performers when filming takes place in May.
Due to the amazing response from fans they were asked if they would help raise just a little more money so the film can be finished and a rough copy submitted before the deadline to TIFF (The Toronto International Film Festival) and at this moment in time they are not far short of actually achieving this, just goes to show the power of fan support.
Written by Daniel Goodwin, directed by Winnifred Jong and starring Hugh Dillon and Sergio Di Zio all of whom first came to our screens in the worldwide hit TV series Flashpoint it packs quiet a pedigree from the start and with a rather intriguing plot this has all the hallmarks of a winner.
Hugh Dillon plays (Richard) a man who wakes up to find his life has been packed away into boxes, at the moment we don’t know why or how long he has been away but bearing in mind that the usual trade marked shaved head, fresh faced Dillon is now sporting a full beard and hair, making him somewhat unrecognisable at first so we are guessing it’s been quiet awhile. Trying to find answers this troubled character unexpectantly meets a charismatic and mysterious man who may have the answers he seeks.
Sergio Di Zio is (Gabe) a door to door salesman selling of all things answers in the form of encyclopedias, and he’s good at it, in fact he is probably that slick that he could easily sell snow to eskimos and now he is just about to help a total stranger, why we have no idea.
At this early stage this film has stirred fans imagination and left them wanting answers of their own and hopefully they won’t have long to wait, but in the meantime if you would like to help fund this film you can do so by clicking on the link below.
