The trailer for Sorry To Bother You, a sci-fi fantasy comedy written and directed by Boots Riley, just dropped, and we are definitely feeling the buzz building over this film.

It tells the story of Cassius “Cash” Green (played by Lakeith Stanfield of Atlanta, Death Note, Get Out), a young African-American trying to survive as a telemarketer in the current day, alternate reality of Oakland, California. Cash takes a tip from his fellow African-American co-worker (played by Danny Glover) and code switches (the practice of shifting the languages you use or the way you express yourself in your conversations) to a white voice. Sound crazy? Check out the trailer here:

Cash climbs the ladder of success using his white voice at work, earning a promotion to Power Caller. Cash goes from living in a not-completely-converted two-car garage to enjoying all the spoils of the high life with sweet, stylish suits and a slick new pad. However, being a Power Caller puts stress on his relationship with Detroit, his girlfriend (played by Tessa Thompson of Thor: Ragnarok), and causes Cash to question just what he will and will not do for money.

Sorry To Bother You also stars Jermaine Fowler, Omari Hardwick, Terry Crews, Patton Oswald, David Cross, Steven Yeun, and Armie Hammer. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2018, and recently screened at South by Southwest on March 12, 2018. Sorry To Bother You is scheduled for release on July 6, 2018, by Annapurna Pictures.
