With five and a half months to go, excitement is starting to build for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest as many countries announce details of their selection shows and Eurovision hopefuls. Armenia, however, is the first country to confirm their entrant for the contest. On the late night show Lav Yereko it was announced that Srbuk would represent Armenia in Tel Aviv next year.
No song has been selected for Srbuk as yet, however, The Public Television Company of Armenia (AMPTV) have put out a call for submissions with a deadline of 10 January 2019.
Armenia made its Eurovision debut in 2006 with André who finished in eighth place. In their first five years in the contest, they did really well, placing within the top ten every year, however, since 2010 they have only managed to reach the top ten on two occasions: in 2014 and 2016.
In 2018 Armenia sent Sevak Khanagyan to Lisbon to complete. He delivered a strong performance in his semi-final, however, in one of the toughest semi-finals he failed to qualify for the final of the contest. Armenia will be hoping that Srbuk can change their fortunes in next years contest.
