Final boarding call! It has been announced that hit musical Starlight Express will be coming to a close in London this year.

The musical, which has been playing at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre since June 2024, is extending for one last time but will be closing on Sunday May 3, 2026. However, it’s not all sad news for Stex fans as it has also been revealed that Starlight Express will be embarking on a world tour in 2027. Further details will be announced in due course.

Michael Harrison said: “I’m thrilled that Starlight Express will extend for the 7th time, in the unique environment of Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. We are also thrilled that the success of this new production means we will embark on a world tour commencing in Spring 2027, details of which we will announce shortly. However, for now, this is your final call for boarding to see the spectacular London revival in Wembley.”

Starlight Express is a true spectacle which sees a young child’s train set come to life. It features a cast of 40 who impressively whizz around the specially built Starlight Auditorium on skates, and follows Rusty the steam train who longs to be fastest in the world.

With songs such as ‘Light at the End of the Tunnel’, ‘Make Up My Heart’, and title track ‘Starlight Express’, the musical has a huge cult following and has won a number of awards including an Olivier award. This particular production has also become London’s longest running revival of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical in 20 years.

A London cast album was released in November 2024, notching up over 17 million streams to date. One of the songs, ‘Pumping Iron’, also enjoyed a huge viral moment thanks to Al Knott’s rendition of the traditionally male sung song.

The Starlight Express company includes Gavin Adams as Rusty, Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy, Olivia Ringrose as Greaseball, Asher Forth as Electra, Sophie Naglik as Pearl, Georgia Pemberton as Dinah, Jaydon Vijn as Hydra, and Scott Hayward as Alternate Rusty. The cast is completed by Jamie Addison, Jessie Angell, Ollie Augustin, Evan Taylor Benyacar, Charles Butcher, Cletus Chan, Tamara Verhoven Clyde, Jamie Cruttenden, Kelly Downing, Isaac Edwards, Maddy Erzan-Essien, Sam Gallacher, Lucy Glover, Amiyah Goodall, Dante Hutchinson, Iwan James, Lewis Kidd, Hannah Kiss, Nicole Louise-Lewis, Bethany Rose Lythgoe, Temi Olawole, RED, Ashley Rowe, Sheridan, Dieuwke Tonissen, Nicky Wong Rush, Charlie Russell, Lara Vina Uzcatia and Amber Weston.
