Rock band Sunset Sons has recently released their newest single ‘On the Road‘ and announced a sold out headline show on November 3rd as part of London’s first Community Festival (alongside Pretty Vicious, Clean Cut Kid and BØRNS).
Following the release of their Radio 1 (Track of the Day) and XFM (Daytime Playlist) supported EP ‘She Wants‘, their new track On The Road was officially released last October 16th.
Sunset Sons was formed when band members Rory, Pete, Jed and Rob encountered each other while pursuing their love for surfing in the sleepy French beach town of Hossegor. Jed, the band’s drummer, came across the band’s frontman Rory hammering out cover version on a bar piano, in between stints pot-washing in the kitchen.
That bar, Le Surfing, which happened to be owned by the band’s Aussie bassist Pete’s cousin, then lent its name to Sunset Sons ‘ self-funded and released debut EP, which entered at No. 6 on the iTunes Rock Chart considering the EP being recorded in just three days.
A subsequent tour then took the band out playing gigs to the coastal surf towns of the UK including Thurso, Scarborough and St. Ives.
Not the typical major city tour dates right?
Well, after touring the UK, the band then also played a raft of summer festival dates like Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, T In the Park, Boardmasters, Calling and Reading, and Leeds Festivals.
True to form, as soon as the festival season was over, the band returned to Hossegor to finish recording their debut album due Spring 2016. Recording sessions were split between Nashville, London and France.
As such, On The Road seems to operate at the heart of that push/pull between the unhurried pace of life in Hassegor and the band’s touring schedule (including being the main support act for Imagine Dragons’ European & UK Arena tour dates this October and November).
