We have new Sunstroke Project music, and we are living for “Boomerang”. We can’t quite imagine what it is like to see a band member leave, but we sure are glad to see that Sunstroke Project is continuing as a duo, especially since this new release is beyond catchy. “Boomerang” marks their first single release as a duo, and follows their collaboration with Timebelle, titled “Tocame”, which was released last year.
Sunstroke Project are best known for representing Moldova at Eurovision twice. In the 2010 contest, they collaborated with Olia Tira with the song “Run Away”, which scored 27 points, placing them in 22nd place at the Grand Final. It was a different story when they returned in 2017 with the song “Hey, Mamma!”, they were one of a few public favourites, scoring a total of 374 points, placing them third, which is Moldova’s best placing in the Eurovision Song Contest, to date. They’ve had quite the lengthy career having released multiple singles as well as one album and two EPs. As they head in a new direction as a duo, we hope more fantastic music is on its way and we would relish in another album release.
If you’re doubting whether you’ve read that correctly, it is true, Sunstroke Project are now a duo, after Anton Ragoza left the group – known by fans of the group as Epic Violin Guy, which is a take on Epic Sax Guy after Sergey Stepanov went viral from a Meme of their 2010 Eurovision performance. It was confirmed that Anton Ragoza had left the band by Realitatea.md on 14 February 2019, although he revealed that the decision had been made three weeks prior. As a founding member of the group, we’re sad to see him leave, however, he is working on a number of new musical projects, one of which, was preparation for Lemonique to win Moldova’s national selection show for Eurovision 2019, O melodie pentru Europa 2019; Lemonique made it to the Final, but came fifth overall with their song “Gravity”.
Now as a duo, consisting of Sergey Stepanov and Sergei Yalovitsky, they’re continuing on Sunstroke Project and bringing it into a new era. They have some exciting new music and collaborations coming up, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us all. “Boomerang” is their first single as a duo, and we can’t stop listening to it.
Listen To Sunstroke Project’s New Single “Boomerang” Here:
The song has a deeper electronic feel to it compared to their previous tracks, giving us a brand new sound. Sergei Yalovitsky’s vocals are pure pop-perfection, as per usual, which really suits this beat. It has a Daft Punk feel to it and it really works. The saxophone instrumental is sexy and brilliant, working well with the backing track whilst having the spotlight during its segment. Sergey Stepanov – or Epic Sax Guy as many know him as – puts his staple in this track and it truly makes it. The song lyrics talk about an on-off relationship suggesting that love always finds a way to brings a couple back together if they’re meant to be, no matter how many times they end it.
“Boomerang” is available to download and stream right now, via BIS Music. More Sunstroke Project music is expected to be released this year.
