Take That celebrate eighth UK number one album with ‘Odyssey’

Take That have scored their eighth UK number one album with their reimagined greatest hits offering, Odyssey.

The album, released in celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary, notched up an incredible 106,000 combined sales in its first week. 94% of their sales were made up of physical copies, including 891 cassette sales.

In the process, Odyssey has become the fastest selling artist album of 2018, with only compilation album NOW 100 beating its sales. Odyssey is also the first studio album to be BRIT certified Gold in just one week.

Speaking about the incredible news, Take That told OfficialCharts.com: “We’re so grateful to all our fans who have been out and bought the album. What a way to celebrate our 30th anniversary!  It really is incredible and it means so much to us. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on the tour next year!”

Odyssey is a greatest hits album like no other, therefore it’s no surprise that is has resonated so well with Take That’s loyal Thatters. The 27-track offering is a concept album which takes you on a stunning journey throughout the band’s sensational 30 year career.

There are reimagined versions of some of the band’s biggest hits which breathe new life into old favourites, in addition to three new tracks (‘Out Of Our Heads’, ‘Spin’ and ‘Everlasting’), which allow Gary, Howard and Mark respectively to showcase their incredible vocals.

All of the songs are woven together by impactful soundbites from the band’s 30 year history, including the infamous “From today, Take That is no more” and lyrics from the Beautiful World album track ‘Wooden Boat’ as sung by former member Jason Orange: “Breathe deep, who knows how long will this last”.

Take That will be heading out on a huge UK and European tour next year in support of Odyssey and their 30th anniversary. Remaining tickets and full date information is available here.
