Speaking about taking over the radio, Shawn Mendes said: “Christmas Day morning I’m so excited to be taking over Radio 1 for a whole hour playing some of my favourite songs right now and bringing in the holiday with you. I can’t wait!”
Alessia Cara added: “I’m going to play what I love listening to on Christmas Day, I’m going to share some stories about what I get up to on Christmas, basically we’re just going to have a great time.”
The Vamps, who also took part in the takeover last year, said: “We’re back again on Radio 1’s Christmas Day Superstar line-up alongside the lovely Shawn Mendes and Little Mix… we’ll play you all the big party tunes and get festive on our favourite day of the year. Make sure you listen from midday!”
Rhys Hughes, Head of Programmes for Radio 1 and 1Xtra said: “Christmas is about people coming together, and Radio 1 will be doing just that on Christmas Day – bringing the nation together with special playlists curated by some of our listeners favourite pop acts – it’ll be a great listen.”
Please note that these takeovers will be prerecorded – meaning you don’t need to skip your Christmas dinner on the day in order to try and catch a glimpse of the stars at the station!
Radio 1’s Superstar Playlist will be broadcast on Christmas Day, and available on iPlayer afterwards in case you miss it.
