Five opening and interval acts have been announced for Portugal’s Eurovision Song Contest 2018. A lot of people have noticed that it’s old meets new when it comes to these established acts. We have Eurovision 2017 winner, Salvador Sobral returning – no surprise there – alongside Mariza, Ana Moura, Branko, and Beatbombers.
The interval acts of the Eurovision Song Contest are there to showcase the country that the contest is being hosted in. Usually, it brings culture, comedy, and top stars. This is the first time that Portugal has hosted the show – after a whopping 47 attempts, they finally won last year with their 48th representative, Salvador Sobral with his song “Amar Pelos Dois”, which scored 758 points – currently holding the record of the most points since the new points scoring system started.
Salvador Sobral
We expect Salvador Sobral to sing his winner’s song “Amar Pelos Dois” – this happens every year. We are also hoping he’ll present a brand new song on stage – this is also to be expected.
He has just had a successful heart transplant so he is ready to live on and pursue his dreams. We are excited to see him return to the Eurovision stage.
Mariza & Ana Moura
This collaboration between Mariza and Ana Moura will display the genre Fado to the world. The genre itself is traced back to the 1820’s in Lisbon, Portugal. The genre is known for following a certain traditional structure. Both singers have established themselves within this music genre.
Mariza has sold over a million records worldwide, she’s a familiar face amongst the Portuguese viewers. With six studio albums behind her – all of which has charted in her home country as well as various other countries around the world – and a bunch of popular tracks, she’s going to no-doubt show the world who she is as an artist.
Ana Moura also has five studio albums behind her, all of which have charted well in her home country. She is mostly known for being the youngest fadista to be nominated for a Dutch Edison Award. This is going to be a collaboration we can’t wait to see.
Branko
This DJ, whose real name is Joao Barbosa, is best known on the international music scene as being the creative driving force of the band Buraka Som Sistema. He’s produced some songs for Santigold and M.I.A. He will certainly liven up the show with his electronic music.
Beatbombers
Now this duo is certainly exciting. They will be presenting some live music as the opening act of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. We will watch the representatives come out to the stage with their flags flying through the air in a flag performance to the Beatbombers music. They are world champions in scratch. They also made the soundtrack to the presentation of Lisbon being the host city for Eurovision 2018, titled “Verdes Anos”. This is definitely going to be beyond memorable.
