It’s safe to say that Banx & Ranx and Ella Eyre’s ‘Answerphone’ featuring Yxng Bane is a playlist favourite here at CelebMix. It’s hard not to be completely captivated by the infectious offering, and we’re not the only ones who are obsessed.
Since its release, ‘Answerphone’ has racked up over 22 million streams on Spotify, and has so far peaked at number seven on the UK Singles Chart. The accompanying music video, shot in Lisbon, has been watched over five million times on YouTube.
In addition, ‘Answerphone’ has been added to Radio 1’s A-List playlist, as well as playlists at Capital and Kiss. Banx & Ranx and Ella also recently delivered a sizzling performance of the song on Sounds Like Friday Night.
As ‘Answerphone’ continues to grow in popularity, earlier today a new remix of the track was unveiled. Team Salut, the South London Afrowave trio, have stepped up to give the song a new edge, whilst Afro B also delivers a new feature. If you thought the original ‘Answerphone’ was infectious, then you will be hooked on the African West Coast vibe added to the track. Polish off your dancing shoes, you’re going to need them.

In our recent interview with Banx & Ranx and Ella, they told us how ‘Answerphone’ came about very organically.
Ella said, “We wrote it on the very first day that we met. The boys had flown over from Montreal and they were doing a camp so I went and wrote there with Shakka and Jacob Manson and I always say that writing is like speed dating because you meet and you’re expected to try and get something of value in just one day. I think by the end of that day we really felt like it had worked and it has completely exceeded my expectations. I knew that I loved the song and once we had written the song that we had to release it in whatever possible way and it had to get out.”
