With the UK leg of The Vamps ‘Wake Up World Tour’ kicking off this week, we decided to dig deep into their cover catalogue and choose five we’d love to make an appearance on this year’s setlist.
The quartet are no strangers to playing covers on tour, their 2015 tour saw a medley of the likes of “Uptown Funk”, “Shake It Off” and “We Can’t Stop” whilst 2014’s brought a YouTube medley including “When I Was Your Man”, “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “Can’t Hold Us”.
We’re hooked on their covers as every time they add their unique touch to some of our favourite tracks, here’s what we’re hoping to hear!
5. Kung fu fighting
Since we found out The Vamps were going to be covering this legendary track for the Kung Fu Panda 3 soundtrack we couldn’t help but be a little bit excited about the end result. Our excitement was completely worth it as now when we hear this track we find ourselves whacking out our kung fu moves and looking a little crazy to the people around us! We’d love to see the guys performing their best moves on stage whilst performing this on tour, but maybe Connor should sit the karate moves out…
4. 22
We can’t even call Taylor Swift a guilty pleasure because well who isn’t a secret Swiftie at heart? The Vamps cover of “22” has, even more, significance with James McVey turning this special age just after their UK dates, which is another reason as to why it deserves a place on the setlist for the Wake Up tour. Slowing down the track, we’re loving The Vamps take on the upbeat number and those harmonies are making us do a little swoon…
3. Pillowtalk
Every so often a great song gets covered and made even greater, “Pillowtalk” is an example of this. There’s something really well… pretty sexy about the quartets (technically trio due to Connor’s absence during the recording) cover of this number one debut single from Zayn. Bringing their own touches to the track with the trademark The Vamps pop-rock edge, the core values of its big sing-along chorus and delicate piano lines remain.
2. Mr. Brightside
A cover which has made an appearance at a couple of shows a few years back and which definitely deserves a return to the setlist is The Killers – “Mr. Brightside”. There’s something about this song which means instantly you’ll feel bigger, stronger and well a whole lot better upon listening to it and The Vamps cover does this total justice. The Vamps take on it injects a dose of poppy guitar lines and the trademark The Vamps vocals we’re in love with. If this made an appearance on the setlist for the tour we guarantee the whole arena would be up on their feet singing back word for word, fancy making it happen guys?
1. Love Yourself
Arguably the best song of the year so far, The Vamps own take on it is definitely up there with Bieber. There’s something about when we get told ‘My mama don’t like you and she likes everyone’ which makes us hurt a little inside as you can’t help but feel you’re being told The Vamps parents aren’t keen on you at all and nobody wants to hear that! A heavier guitar effort compared to the original makes this the perfect match for The Vamps and a cover which we’d love to hear for ourselves on tour.
