In honor of Mike Dirnt from Green Day’s birthday, we gathered our top five Green Day songs.
Green Day is an American rock band best known for their album American Idiot. The band consists of guitarist/vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, drummer Tre Cool, and guitarist Jason White. The band has been around since 1986 and released their first official album Dookie in 1994. Green Day has also sold over 75 million records all over the world and has even been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
5. Basket Case
Despite being released in 1994 on the Dookie album, it’s still a song people rock out to today. A basket case is someone who can’t cope, and is said to be useless. The song talks about feeling like you’re going crazy and having anxiety, therefore feeling like a basket case.
4. Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
This an all acoustic of Green Day’s, categorized as more of a slow song – along with Wake Me Up When September Ends. It talks about taking risks and going out to participate in the once in a lifetime opportunities; “It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right. I hope you had the time of your life.”
3. American Idiot
For non-Green Day fans, they will without a doubt know this song! It’s, universally, one of the bands most popular – alongside with Wake Me Up When September Ends. Both songs were released on the album American Idiot in 2004. The album talks about how, at the time, the United States were ruled by biased media.
2. 21 Guns
This song begins at a slow pace, but then gradually becomes faster. 21 Guns was even featured in the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and is continually part of the tracklist, today. The song expresses patriotism and about the people who have died in battles and wars.
1. Boulevard of Broken Dreams
BOBD solely focuses on the fact that dreams can let you down. The song describes how the feeling of loneliness, can sometimes feel like home. The narrator behind this song accepts that his life will have their lonely parts; however, he wishes that someone will join him one day. But until then, he knows he is alone.
