The ARIA awards are basically the Australian equivalent to the Grammy’s in America, so you could say being nominated is a big honor in terms of the beautiful music culture in Australia. Many Australian artists have become international superstars around the world and recognizing their achievement through the ARIA awards is just one way of highlighting their musical artistry.
With 11 nominations, Australian record produced Flume leads the pack. Both of his studio albums have been number one hits on the ARIA charts. He’s also found international success especially with sophomore album, Skin, which lodged a top 10 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. His biggest hit to date is ‘Never Be Like You’ featuring Kai, was also an international success around the world and earned him a #1 on the ARIA singles chart.
Next in line is LGBTQ+ musician and advocate Troye Sivan who was listed in 2014 on TIME Magazine’s “25 most influential teens of 2014”. His debut album, Blue Neighborhood, received Gold certifications in the U.S. and Australia. ‘Youth’ remains his biggest selling single to date.
Sia also comes swiftly in with 6 nominations and definitely well deserved as she’s launched a magnificent string of hits per hits. ‘Cheap Thrills’ hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified multi platinum in almost every country it was released in. It’s sold well over 4 million copies worldwide.
