Once again, it seems there is no end to Ant and Dec’s winning streak. The ever-popular duo managed to scoop three prizes at the TV choice awards on Monday night, despite not being there to accept them. Best Entertainment Show, Best Reality Show and Best Talent Show were awarded for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Britain’s Got Talent, respectively.
ITV also won big at the event, which was presented by Lenny Henry at the London Hilton hotel. Broadchurch was voted as the Best TV Drama, with David Tenant bagging the Best Actor gong two years in a row. Television favourite Sheridan Smith was presented with the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Cilla Black, and made a touching tribute to the late singer and entertainer. Jeremy Kyle also managed to hold onto his king of daytime TV reputation, winning Best Daytime Show for the fifth year running.
However, the BBC didn’t do too badly either, snatching Best New Drama for Poldark and Best Family Drama for Call the Midwife. EastEnders was triumphantly crowned as the Best Soap, with Davood Ghadami (Kush Kazemi) taking the Best Newcomer award back to the square.
Not forgetting Channel 4, who also achieved their fair share of success at this year’s ceremony. Best factual entertainment show went to family-favourite Gogglebox and Best International Show was awarded to US comedy The Big Bang Theory, which is currently aired on E4.
So what can we take from all this? Well, in terms of the best programmes currently on the box, it seems like a fair bit of channel hopping is certainly in order!
