The draw for the group stage of the Champions League took place this afternoon at 17:00 BST in Monaco. Arsenal, Leicester City, Manchester City, Tottenham and 28 more football teams finally discovered who they have to face in Europe.
Today’s ceremony was hosted by Anne Laure-Bonnet and Pedro Pinto, Chief of Communications and Media for UEFA. Footballers Antoine Griezmann, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale also attended the event, namely they were nominated for UEFA Player of the Year, and the awards were dished out there.
The eight groups for this season’s competition were drawn from four pots by football legends Clarence Seedorf, Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Roberto Carlos.
As Leicester City is in the Champions League for the very first time, many people were eagerly waiting to see who the champions of England would be placed with.
However, the excitement was still as huge as in the past events, and the results that came out were really interesting:

The ceremony didn’t end after the draw since the man and woman UEFA European players of the year were crowned: Lyon‘s Ada Hederberg for women and Real Madrid‘s Cristiano Ronaldo for men.
Well…it was a very exciting and also a nerve-wracking afternoon, wasn’t it?
The final of the Champions League is on 4 June 2017 at Cardiff’s National Stadium of Wales, so if you love football put a note on your calendar right now.
