We’ve sat down completely willingly and have already binge-watched the entire 2nd season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and decided to review what we thought was utter perfection for a follow-up season! We can promise you that you will not be disappointed by Season 2, it is just as hilarious as Season 1, maybe even better!
There are spoilers ahead in this article, each episode of Season 2 has been written about and labelled so you know where you can read to if you’re only a few episodes in and you don’t want any spoilers. You have been warned!
The theme tune still has us jamming every time and it’s great to hear it once again, let’s talk Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!
Episode 12: Kimmy See’s a Sunset.
Kimmy opens up to Andrea about her mother Lori-Ann Schmidt and her mother’s addiction to roller coasters. Kimmy announces that she’s decided to find her mother, she believes that it’s going to take a long time and that she will have to hire a private investigator to find her family. Mikey just types Kimmy’s mothers’ name into Facebook and finds her account filled with roller coasters with ease, Kimmy realises how easy it is to find people and then gets mad because Lori, her mother, is taking so long to find her. Lori-Ann’s Facebook reveals that she lives in Florida and Kimmy makes it her mission to track her down and confront her about where she has been while Kimmy was kidnapped.
Jacqueline is dating a lawyer, Russ, for his money. That is until she realises she has big feelings for him when Russ is attacked and hurt. Jacqueline is taken back by the fact she actually cares about him and has feelings for him realising that she put his needs before hers which is something she has never done before, not even with ex-husband, Julian Voorhees.
Titus looks after Mikey when he gets a fever but has to prepare fo an audition then gets sick himself and gives the third worst audition of his life. Mikey tells Titus that his lease is up at his apartment and asks if Titus will let him move in and Titus lets him
Titus gets the role in Mahogany and learns that it’s a part four months on a cruise to the Caribbean. Mikey wants Titus to go on the cruise because he loves him and thinks it’s an opportunity that he can’t give up and that he is willing to wait for Titus to return from the cruise so they can be together properly.
Lillian finds out the way she was handcuffed to the bulldozer meant that the construction workers could still use the bulldozer and Lillian poops out the key and frees herself.
Kimmy turns therapist for her own therapist, Andrea who is drinking a lot but won’t tell Kimmy why. Andrea opens up while drunk and at a bar with Kimmy and tells Kimmy she drinks because of her “stupid childhood” and her “fear of eating alone”
Kimmy handcuffs herself to “drunk Andrea” who is acting as “sober Andrea” to try and stop her drinking, realises that she can’t and leaves Andrea to her own devices.
This episode was a personal favourite of ours and we’re very sad there’s only one more episode until we’ve watched the entire season. It’s complete heartbreak knowing that this is almost over and the journey with Kimmy and her friends has been a real one. Jacqueline has discovered her true self, Kimmy is on her journey to find answers for things she doesn’t understand, Lillian has her own little family with Titus and Kimmy and Titus is settled with Mikey. It looks like this is going to be an incredibly happy ending, no?
Our favourite quotes from the episode were:
“We haven’t even gotten to my fear of Velcro!” – Kimmy.
“I need your help, I deleted your phone number when I was mad at you” – Jacqueline.
9.0/10 star IMDB rating.
Overall, each and every episode in the second season considered, we’ve been taken on a journey of discovery with the cast of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. We admit, the first season was great so we were worried they wouldn’t be able to follow, but they did spectacularly. If you haven’t seen the show you really should and if you have, watch it again! The show is full of messages that every single person can relate to about love and friendship. The messages that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt share are important whether it is the message of self-acceptance or accepting others. The character development in the show has blown us away and the characters feel even realer despite the ridiculousness of the situations they can get themselves into. CelebMix absolutely recommends that you watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!
