We’ve sat down completely willingly and have already binge-watched the entire 2nd season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and decided to review what we thought was utter perfection for a follow-up season! We can promise you that you will not be disappointed by Season 2, it is just as hilarious as Season 1, maybe even better!
There are spoilers ahead in this article, each episode of Season 2 has been written about and labelled so you know where you can read to if you’re only a few episodes in and you don’t want any spoilers. You have been warned!
Episode 2: Kimmy goes on a Play Date.
Kimmy gets a job at a Christmas store “This is an all year round Christmas store, you must be the happiest woman on earth!” We don’t understand those stores either, Kimmy!
Jacqueline gets a divorce and her ex-husband sells the townhouse they had in New York, so the now Ms White is staying with Kimmy and Titus in their tiny apartment and as you guessed, it leads to some crazy antics! Kimmy ultimately gets fed up of Jacqueline feeling sorry for herself when she has it all, even though the situation she is in is an unpleasant one. It’s nice to see Kimmy be a more diverse character where she isn’t always optimistic and easy going, granted she is mostly optimistic, but she’s more realistic because she gets upset, mad and sips a lot of truth tea throughout season 2!
Titus realises that he has too many clothes in his closet and he only notices that when it breaks, so Titus decides that the world would be a better place if everybody looks like him so he decides to donate his unwanted clothes to charity. Titus definitely represents the struggle we have all known throwing out things we own and have become attached to. Titus meets the builder who hit on him in the first season, they start to connect and the builder, Mikey, admits that Titus was the first guy he’s ever hit on and the first person he came out to. What some people called mockery of the LGBT community in the first season appears to be Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt airing real issues on screen through some light humour in the hope of creating a little more acceptance in the world. This scene is such a beautiful moment partly because of the feel-good vibe, but mostly because of its message and the fact Titus gets a date.
Episode 2 is an episode of incredible character development, to say the least, we are stunned by the versatility of the actors, and we are loving it!
Our favourite quotes from episode 2 are:
“Now get these kids underground and don’t let the police see you” – Jacqueline.
“Go away Lillian, I’ve decided to live as a bed from now on…” – Titus.
